I remember when my parents went on their first cycling tour. My mom was packing, and I picked up her shorts, and they had a huge pad in them. I was about 8 and I started giggling. “What’s this mom?” “It’s to keep my bum from hurting.” I was fascinated by all the clothes and gear they needed for their week long cycling trip. The trip was along the east coast, somewhere around vermont, I think. And there was a SAG van that was there to help if any mechanicals happened, and if anyone just didn’t feel like riding. They did about 30-40 miles per day, I believe. That was the start of my interest and fascinating with riding bikes.
I love to explore. When I was younger, my brother, sister, and I all went to camp. My dad was a YMCA camp counselor back in the day, and wanted us all to go. We loved it! We couldn’t wait every summer to go back to camp. The outdoors was just in our blood. My mom was a big camper, too, that’s one of the ways my parents fell in love. So, there the 3 of us kids were every summer going off to camp, going on canoe trips, kayak trips, and hiking trips. The kind where you are gone in the middle of nowhere for a week or two or month at a time. (I didn’t go on the month long one, but I wish I had – soccer camp took priority at that point).
With those two loves already engrained in me, there was no doubt that some day I would want to go on my own bike riding adventures. But, in typical “me” fashion, I want to do it big. I want to travel the world and ride bikes and see the most beautiful views that nature has given us. After meeting someone who loves adventure and riding bikes, as much as I do, my dreams started to become a reality. It started with riding bikes in Zion, to Santa Cruz, and then Bend. But, this is only the tip of the iceberg. My mind is going in a million different directions, wanting to see the stunning beauty of the world on two wheels.
With that here are my current top 10 places I want to go ride:
- La Route Verde – Quebec, Canada
- Underground Railroad Route – USA
- Ruta Austral – Chile
- Annecy to Alpe d’huez – France
- Canary Islands – Spain
- Glacier National Park
- Mallorca Spain
- Cycling the Tour de France
Where have you ridden that you would recommend? What’s on your dream riding list? If you’ve ridden in any of these places, let me know how it was!
