Ask Katie #6! Loved this week’s questions. This week’s are targeted to triathletes, runners, swimmers, etc. I remember having tons of questions when I was a newbie triathlete, so hopefully this helps answer some of yours! Hope you all had a great week of training!
With that here are this week’s questions:
What sports bra are you wearing? – @acegreico
Curve Crusador by Saucony – neon yellow one. I love this bra. I honestly have been impressed with the upgrades that Saucony has made to their running bras. They are quickly becoming my fave bras to run it. No movement. No chafing. The two most important things to me. And then comes style and color. 🙂
How did you train to prep for the elevation gain at St. George 70.3? – Lindsay
For sure! I didn’t notice any difference with the higher altitude to be honest. So, I didn’t worry too much about that going in. But, there is a lot of total elevation throughout the bike and run, as there is a lot of up and down. Definitely the most challenging bike course I have ever done. But, we are lucky since California is full of elevation. I think just doing a lot of hill repeats both on the bike and on the run were perfect ways to prep for this race. There is one really really long friggin’ climb, I would have to look and see, but I swear it was like 20-30min of climbing with a little relief here and there. It’s definitely worth it though! You should do it! I’d love to meet you!
Do you train via heart rate/zones in that endurance zones for most of your running? Just curious. 🙂 – @livo_
Great question! I do use HR/Zones for all of my bike/run training. I mix up my run training bw endurance & anaerobic zones. I make sure to have at least 1 endurance run each wk, 2 strength/speed sessions that push anaerobic & 1 recovery – below endurance HR each wk. I love training by HR!
Garmin vs. Fitbit – I’m a swimmer which one do you recommend? – Molly
If I were you I’d get the Garmin 920XT. It’s an activity tracker AND great for swimming (or bike, run, etc.). It’s an awesome watch and I think you would get a lot out of it since it does both. The downside is it’s a bit bulky, but, I think worth it because it calculates everything you want to know. (I have the fitbit and the misfit, I reviewed the misfit, you can read about it here if you are looking for an activity tracker.) And it’s a great accessory for tracking mimosas, too 😛
