We are 46 weeks away from Ironman Sweden, and we are having a blast getting back in shape. This past week was a bit of a weird one for me though. The theme of the week was testing to see where my fitness was at, to truly give me an idea of where my zones should be. I was a little nervous since I’m definitely not in the best of shape right now, but I was also excited because it would give me an idea of where I’m at, and where I can go.
Quote of the Week:
I am right where I need to be.
There I was finishing up my bike ride on Wednesday, and had just had some protein pancakes, when Topher comes in from his ride. He wanted to go for a run and invited me, and I thought sure, why not? He was only going for a short little brick run. We are only about a 1/4 mile from home, nearing the end of our run, and “crack!”. I, immediately fall to the ground in agony, screaming. Topher runs over, my phone had gone flying out of my hand, and I’m grabbing my ankle screaming for dear life. He tells me to breath, and gets me to eventually calm down, but it happened again. I sprained my ankle. Not as bad as the one in January, but bad enough that I couldn’t catch my breath. I just keep rolling this sucker. It sucks. Fortunately, Dan Selstad who does my ART had an opening for the next morning. He worked it out, I iced, and put compression on it, and kept it elevated, and voila I was running the next day. It was unreal!
This week was full of ups and downs with training. Between my sprained ankle, and my crappy FTP test on the bike, I was not in great spirits. But, I just stayed positive and told myself to just do what I love. Don’t worry about it. It will all fall into place. I did learn that although I may be nearly a year out from this Ironman, I do need to start doing some speed work, because I have no speed right now. She gone. I’m actually excited, because I like doing the work. It feels good to make it burn. I had a great ride with the Rippin’ Rileys and Jené on Saturday, and on Sunday, Toph and I went running in Rancho Santa Fe on a trail I had never ran before. I love using cycling and running as a means to explore. It’s so fun and makes me happy.
Total Hours for the Week: 8hrs 52min
