Collagen – when I think of Collagen, I think of something that keeps things together. The glue that keeps our muscles and bones all working together.
The true definition: the main structural protein found in animal connective tissue, yielding gelatin when boiled.
To break it all down simply – Collagen helps keep our joints healthy – making exercise a little less painful. 😛 As an athlete, this is really important, or “vital” to my training, and fitness regimen. Even when I’m not training for a triathlon or running event, I’m always exercising. Exercising has so many benefits but while we are increasing strength, stamina, endorphins, and all that jazz, we are also putting stress, “good stress” on the body, but it’s still stress, and therefore our bodies need a little bit of help from the outside to stay in good health.
One of those add-ons is collagen. 🙂 About a month ago, I started using Vital Proteins Collagen in my protein shakes. I had been dealing with an injury, and still have had on-going pain from when I sprained my ankle back in January. My healing has been speeding up and my muscles have been feeling better faster with just a serving of collagen a day. Of course, I have also been foam rolling and stretching more, but either way, I’m feeling better, and I feel more confident knowing that I’m giving my body something that helps repair my muscles after I fatigue them.
I have also been adding Vital Proteins – Gelatin to “real food”. Like guacamole, as well as soups and broths. It’s so easy and basically flavorless.
My Guacamole – Vital Proteins Recipe
2 whole avos
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 roma tomato diced
1/4 tsp salt
a sprinkle of pepper
1/4 cup of white onion
