Workouts of the Week + Breakthroughs

My workouts this past week were all about speed! πŸ™‚ It’s 1 week til Desert International Triathlon and I’m getting super excited! We are heading out Friday to Palm Springs and we’ll be cheering on Kris and Jim Riley in the Sprint on Saturday, and then Toph and I will be racing on Sunday. I’m excited! I love getting together and racing because we are surrounded by all of those people who love this sport as much as we do.

My mantra this week was: Keep on pushing the limits!

My body was tired after the 17hr week before, and my mind was tired, too. But, that’s because the training is working! πŸ™‚

I felt really good! For my swims, I continue to focus on endurance and technique. My big race I’m focusing on is St. George, so there is plenty of time to work on speed for all three disciplines. The biggest focus right now has been pushing myself on the bike because I thought I had, but I hadn’t until now. After Desert Tri, I will start bringing speed workouts into swimming, as well. I have thrown some speed in with running, too, but haven’t quite truly started building that up, the way I have with riding. My dad did some math last year, and he figured out that my biggest weakness is my bike, and if I focused on that, I could really shave some time off of my races. πŸ™‚ Thank goodness I know someone who is practically an expert in going hard on the bike. πŸ˜‰

Every time I ride right now I pretty much am working hard. Which is great! I’m definitely getting fitter, and now I can spend some time absorbing that fitness this week, and then get back after it after I race this weekend.

Which is actually great, since my focus is speed this year. I need to be pushing my anaerobic boundaries. I’ve already built up my endurance, but now I need some speed, and then I’ll eventually combine the two, again. πŸ™‚

Since I put in 12 1/2hrs this past week, it’s now time for a rest day! Yay! Here are some highlight photos from the week:
